An opportunity has arisen to employ a Geomatics Supervisor based out of the Geomatics department at our Cambridge office. We are looking for an experienced field archaeologist with demonstrable experience of on-site data capture, and who is able to take on responsibility for a range of survey tasks and contribute during post-excavation analysis and processing. You must have experience of a range of project types as well as use of GNSS systems and photogrammetric survey methods in the field. Experience of QGIS and ArcGIS software is essential. You will have a good understanding of commercial archaeology in the UK or Irish commercial environment. You will need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have a commitment to engaging the wider community in aspects of our work.
Position requirements:
Essential:
- Substantial experience of commercial archaeology.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of geomatics including techniques for archaeological field survey, earthwork recording and / or building survey.
- Competent with ArcGIS and QGIS, Mapboard project setup, digital data acquisition and data management.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Experience using Leica GNSS, TST, and hand-drawn planning for site survey.
- Understanding of the application of photogrammetry for archaeological use and related software.
- This post involves driving to sites throughout the east of England and further afield, and as such a full clean driving licence and ability to work away on occasion is essential.
- You will have a good understanding of the Health and Safety legislation relevant to the commercial environment, as well the needs and priorities of commercial clients.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or other survey related software.
- Good understanding of processing data and producing site plans in a time-effective manner.
- Demonstratable experience of digital data management.
- A UAV pilot licence (either A2 C of C, or GVC)
- Awareness of the contribution of geomatics to the post-excavation processes.
- Ability to communicate ideas and techniques effectively to assist with performance monitoring and training.
- A degree in archaeology, geomatics or related discipline will be highly advantageous, and CIfA membership at an appropriate level.
- Confident in providing technical support remotely for survey and geomatics tasks on archaeological sites.

- Competitive salary range £29,868 - £32,131 (appointments will be made on the basis of demonstrated ability, previous experience and CIfA membership if appropriate).

- Subsistence payment of £22.50 per night (tax free) and free, no sharing in single rooms (usually B & B or self-catering) for away-based projects.
- Paid travel time for journeys to site that take longer than one hour from the office and free transport from regional offices to sites.
- We pay 100% of CIfA subscription fees.
