Investigating 400,000 years of history

Our projects have comprised some of the largest and most challenging sites in the UK, covered all periods from the Palaeolithic to the 20th century, and have encompassed many site types, including rural sites, deeply-stratified urban centres, large-scale infrastructure projects, industrial sites, cemeteries both ancient and modern, and extensive landscape surveys.

In this section, we look back at some of the many projects we have undertaken over the past 45 years. The featured projects reflect the scope, complexity, and geographical reach of our work, highlight some of the exciting nationally and sometimes internationally significant results that have emerged, describe the innovative approaches that we have developed, and reveal something of the stories of people in the past.
