6th November 2019:

This weekend, OA East with East Herts District Council are holding a public open day at an archaeological excavation in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

Local residents are invited to drop in between 10am and 4pm this Saturday, 9th November 2019, to visit the excavation and see the finds. There will be free guided tours with OA East's archaeologists every 30 minutes. The open day will be clearly signposted from the Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre.

The team from OA’s Cambridge-based office is currently investigating Grange Paddocks for evidence of Roman roadside settlement. The excavation is taking place next to the route of Roman Stane Street which joined the two Roman towns of Verulamium (present-day St Albans) and Camulodunum (Colchester).

These works are taking place in advance of the new Grange Paddocks Leisure Centre development which will improve leisure facilities within East Herts to suit the changing needs of leisure users and the growing demand for facilities, contributing to the health and wellbeing objectives of the council.
