weymouth2TV historian Dan Snow was at the Dorset County Museum recently to film a BBC series about the Vikings, according to the Blackmore Vale Magazine. His focus was on the remains of the decapitated Vikings found in a mass grave by a team from Oxford Archaeology on Ridgeway Hill near Weymouth in 2009. The skeletons form part of a new display in the museum's refurbished Ancient Dorset Gallery, due to re-open this autumn.

Head of OA's Heritage Burials Services, Dr Louise Loe, was on hand to show Dan Snow the Vikings and talk about the results of the scientific and archaeogical analyses carried out on the remains. Dan Snow subsequently wrote in the museum's visitor book: "What wonderful Viking remains."

The story of the Ridgeway Hill Vikings is revealed in a book published by the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society. Click here for more information.
