Milton Road, Cambridge: in August 2015, Oxford Archeology East conducted an archaeological trenching evaluation at land formerly occupied by the houses numbered 21-23 Milton Road, Cambridge. Two trenches were excavated at the proposed development site revealing six large post-medieval quarry pits dating to the 19th century. The pits were sealed by layers of late 19th or early 20th century rubble, associated with the construction of houses on the plot in the 1920s, and their subsequent demolition in the 1990s. Covington, Cambridgeshire: A fieldwalking exercise was conducted in September 2014 at Mitchells Field Covington as a Jigsaw Cambridgeshire training course for volunteers. Medieval and post-medieval ceramic building material (CBM) was recovered. Medieval and postmedieval pottery was also found scattered across the site, along with one confirmed piece of Roman pottery. Other finds include a gun-flint and various metal objects along with fragments of clay-pipe, slate, glass and slag: all of probable post-medieval to modern date. Read more here.

 

Buxton, Derbyshire: In July 2004 Oxford Archaeology (OA) carried out a field evaluation on land adjacent to the Railway Hotel, Bridge Street, Buxton, Derbyshire (NGR 40624 37365) on behalf of John Samuels Archaeological Consultants for Infrastructure Investments Ltd. The evaluation revealed that the site had been truncated by 19th century activity, probably related to industry. Three ditches, probably for drainage, and dating to the 19th century were recorded.  Read more here.
