13th November 2014:
Every year, English Heritage publishes Heritage Counts, an annual review of the state of the historic environment in England. This year's edition includes a feature on a community archaeology project by Oxford Archaeology North.
Each edition is focused around a particular theme, the theme for 2014 being the value and impact of heritage. A piece about a project at Jubilee Colliery, Oldham, appears in a section called 'Heritage participation and perceptions'. The Heritage Lottery funded project, a partnership between Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale and OA North, comprised a volunteer-led excavation, dedicated sessions in schools, and school visits to the site.
We are thrilled that the project has gained national recognition through Heritage Counts. The English Heritage report is available online and can be downloaded via this link.
