Gary studied archaeology in Cardiff, where his interest in prehistory coincided with the development of GIS and its use the spatial analysis of past landscapes, and he analysed privacy within Bulgarian Tell settlements during his M.Sc. at UCL.

Hired as a GIS specialist, Gary's role at OA has expanded along with the discipline and he undertakes various aspects of GIS management, analysis, and development - including utilising databases (MS Access & PostgreSQL/PostGIS), and intelligently incorporating more recent technologies, such as photogrammetry. Projects have varied from numerous characterisation studies (including an Historic Seascapes Characterisation Project), publication drafts, site data management, and co-managing the COMIC 3 project undertaken for English Heritage.

Gary has also focused on the dissemination of archaeological data within an IT framework. This includes the use of data within OA, aiming to push the company forward in regards to data storage, accessibility and usability, and as part of the wider archaeological community, where he is a member of the ICOMOS UK - Digital Technology Committee.
