OA carried out a series of archaeological investigations within the Paradise Street Development Area (PSDA), Liverpool. The work was undertaken on behalf of Grosvenor in advance of a mixed-use development. The development area forms a significant part of Liverpool city centre lying partly within the Maritime Mercantile City of Liverpool World Heritage Site, and includes the site of the world’s first purpose-built wet dock, constructed in 1710, and which prompted the rapid expansion of Liverpool as a port. The rediscovery of the Old Dock by OA prompted the application of World Heritage Site status for Liverpool’s docklands with the Old Dock as a key component. OA was actively involved in the design of the visitor centre and designed the exhibition facility incorporating a digital reconstruction of the dock in its hey day.
